Who are the Brethren?   

  • Affiliated with the Church of the Brethren, a Christian community
  • A church that understands itself to be continuing the work of Jesus: peacefully, simply, and together.
  • Believes in doing what Jesus did: helping people meet the practical and spiritual needs of day-to-day life.
  • Uses the New Testament as its creed and guide, but no formal creed—we just try to do as Jesus did
  • Encourages a faith rooted in relationship with Christ
  • Encourages a faith that is respectful of each person’s voice
  • Is open to all people as God’s children—our brothers and sisters

When did the Church of the Brethren Originate? 

  • Originated in Germany in 1708
  • A small group of believers committed to practice the teachings of the New Testament. 
  • One of three historic peace churches, Quakers, Mennonites, and the Church of the Brethren
